These are links to technology web sites that will be of value to a CEO or top manager.
- Broadband Information and Testing - This site has in-depth information on broadband providers and useful tools to test your own connection. It provides up to date information on actual broadband speeds for Internet Service Providers. Also provided are reader reviews on the installation and technical performance of ISP's to assist you in deciding where to buy. One particularly useful feature for those who already have a broadband connection is a 'speed test', which tells you the actual download and upload speed from both the West Coast and East Coast of the U.S. If your speed is far below the line's capability, the site also enables you to 'tweak' your computer to maximize the data coming in over the line.
- FlipDisk - This is a small, light, fast portable data storage device. It comes in five different capacities ranging from 4.2 GB to 20 GB. It operates through the PCMCIA port on a notebook computer or the parallel port on any computer. It has proved to the CEO of Management Advisory Services, Inc. to be a reliable, fast way to backup a notebook PC.
- Laptop Lane - When you are stuck in an airport and need a place to work productively, a solution is on the horizon. Laptop Lane is rapidly opening up mini-offices in airports in the U.S. For one all-inclusive price of less than $23 an hour, billed in 1/4 hour increments, you get a private, lockable office with complete facilities: desk, desktop PC, laptop connection, Internet access over a T-1 line, e-mail access, telephone ( with U.S. long distance calls included in the price), fax machine, printer. On-site technical support is provided by a "cyber concierge". One or more wired conference rooms is available. Other office services are offered as well.
